So I came across this contest in one of the blogs I visit regularly, Project Vanity. While I love contests as much as the next person, it’s strangely coincidental that I was planning to write something about this as well. So I decided to just go on with it.

It reminded me of that famous American Gods quote, you know, that super long one where Sam tells Shadow what she believes in. I’ve been meaning to write something like that. A list of all the things I believe in.

But for now I’ll share one thing: I believe in taking chances.

I believe in giving up your comfort zone in pursuit of something better, something bigger. Only if we take chances will we truly become better people. No, “better” is cutting it too specific. Only if we take chances will we have the opportunity to become more than what we are. And as people, as humans, I think that’s what we should always strive for.

There are a lot of things that stop us from taking chances. Fear being the one that tops the list. There are also other people, opinions of other people, and that thing that children are free of: consequences.

If we let ourselves be gripped by fear, be stopped by people telling us that it’s not possible, it’s not good, it’s not right, how in the world can we become more than the person that we are right now? Yes, we may be making a wrong decision, we may suffer a LOT for taking that chance but if you ask me, I’d rather suffer and learn than be plagued by what-ifs and regret for the rest of my life.

So I say, take chances, make a decision and never look back. Man up to your choice and move forward. Always keep pushing forward.
